It has been shown the genetic modifications change behaviors in some animals. The behavioral changes in honeybees due to gene modifications can even be predicted with an algorithm. So it is very likely that our genes play an active role in the function of our neural nets. Genes and gene expression may even modify the functions of individual neurons, complicating the mapping of human neural network function.
